In celebration of Latinx Heritage Month, we’re spotlighting Nick Faber, an Associate Value Engineer in NYC. For Nick, this time is a chance to reflect on his family's Mexican roots and recognize the richness of Latinx cultures.
Growing up in a small town in Colorado, Nick's early understanding of his Mexican heritage was limited. He recalls, “The closest I ever felt to understanding my Mexican heritage was when we went for burritos at Taco Bell after school.” However, this perspective shifted dramatically when he moved to Guadalajara, Mexico, where he immersed himself in the culture.
In Guadalajara, Nick found himself welcomed by a host family who introduced him to Mexican traditions. He states, “A Mexican wedding is both the most beautiful and the most fun I've had in a single day.” The culinary delights, like tacos al pastor with agua de jamaica, and cultural celebrations, such as Día de los Muertos, opened his eyes to the rich diversity within Latinx culture.
Nick recognizes that while his experiences are uniquely Mexican, they represent just one part of the vast Latinx heritage. “Having this month dedicated to connecting all of these varied traditions, histories, foods, and beliefs is powerful,” he says. “It not only gives me the chance to honor my personal heritage but also provides the broader Latinx community a platform to showcase the rich diversity within it.” This celebration underscores the contributions Hispanic and Latinx cultures have made to the social fabric of society, reminding everyone to appreciate what makes each community unique.
At Celonis, Nicholas’s involvement in the Latinx@Celonis Business Resource Group (BRG) has profoundly impacted his experience. “Being able to connect with folks of a similar background—especially after moving from a place with fewer represented identities to New York City, where there are so many identities from across the Latin world—has been truly special,” he shares. The BRG has provided a welcoming space to celebrate shared heritage and form connections with colleagues from diverse Latinx backgrounds.
“Through these connections, I've found support and mentorship, all of which have positively impacted my experience at Celonis.”
From day one, Nick has felt embraced by the culture at Celonis. “Having a BRG like Latinx@Celonis is a big win already, but being able to share my story with open ears and contribute to the broader community has been an incredible experience.”
Nick has embraced the numerous opportunities for growth that Celonis offers, both professionally and as part of the global community. He notes, “From helping coordinate Impact Days for NYC Orbit and the broader NYC office to working closely with other Celonauts on the Latinx BRG, I have found the opportunities for growth are abundant.” He encourages others to be open to saying yes, emphasizing that personal and professional development often comes from stepping outside of your comfort zone.
